How to Choose the Best Colors for your Fall Decor

Of all the seasons, I find fall the trickiest. Orange, brown, green, yellow… these colors can either add to or subtract from the feeling in a room, depending on their shade.

(Or you can just decorate with all of them and just enjoy it. That works too.)

To pick the best shades for your home, it’s important to know what color palate works with your existing colors- your walls, your furniture, and your lighting.

If you have warm tones like cream, warm brown, peach, and yellow in your home, here are corresponding fall colors:

If they’re too bright, make them lighter- just keep the warm undertone. You can also mix in a bright, warm gold:

If you have cooler tones like beige, magenta, dark brown, and forest green in your home, here are your corresponding fall colors:

You can play with lighter or darker versions as well, as long as you keep a “blue” undertone. This also will pair nicely with a light gold:

White walls can be paired with warm or cool colors. Cream will look best with warm colors.

In our home, I’ve struggled with the beige walls. Though it has a lot of pink in it, it’s kind of a blue-pink. It looks really bad with warm orange colors against it. Here’s from a few years back. You can see that the green and the white work, but the bright orange, red, pink, and yellow are more of a clash.

And then when I thought through my “cooler” colors, I think it worked so much better! Those shades of red and orange were just not working with the beige.

Though I still have some warm pinks, the rest of the cooler colors match so much better- navy, blue green, and bright white.
Still not perfectly “cool,” but better.

Of course, what matters most is what makes you happy, so pick whatever colors make you feel good and run with it!
