Hi. So… I reached a writer’s block. Maybe six months ago, I started a series on race. My goal was to support the Black Lives Matter movement by taking a centrist position and describing underlying definitions of race and race relations. I’m going to admit that I bit off more than I could chew. I was trying to approach things from the middle- from a perspective that wouldn’t offend anyone, and would bring everyone together.

As time went on, I started to feel my whiteness increasingly keenly. Someone seemed to completely misunderstand the intent of my posts, and thought I was actually being racist (and was agreeing with me). In my attempt to describe something very delicate and nuanced, I missed the mark.

I still want to find a way to write about that topic- I just may need to approach it a slightly different way. For the time being, I hid those posts. Moving on!

How are you all doing? I don’t know about you, but I am absolutely exhausted by the pandemic, and I can’t wait for us to achieve immunity enough for life to return to a semblance of normalcy. Personally, I’m also thrilled to have Biden as President. It’s like a huge weight has been lifted.

Right now, my heart is with the many families who have lost a loved one in the pandemic. I’m thinking of those stuck at the border, many in unhumane conditions, desperately seeking safety. There are so many battles that remain to be fought, so many in need of assistance. I have hope that things can and will change for the better, and I know that we can all be part of that change.

From my window, I see green, and little yellow flowers coming up. It’s Spring. There are many, many reasons to remain hopeful, and I hope you’ve also found a window of hope as we’ve been in a very dark time, as humans, for a very long time.

Sending you love.
